Thermomechanical Analysis

Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA)

This characterization technique is used to study the changes in dimension and mechanical properties of a material when exposed to thermal changes. Its primary use is to determine the coefficient of linear thermal expansion for a material.

ASTM Standards:

E831-19

This standard tests for the linear thermal expansion coefficient of solid materials at a constant heating rate. During this test, specimen length is recorded as a function of temperature. It is applicable across any temperature ranges that fall between -120 °C to 900 °C.
